The Bibliothèque Mazarine is open from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (non stop). For delivery of materials, requests must be made before 4:45 pm. The library is closed every year between August the 1st and 15th, for publics holidays and during the publics sessions of the Institut de France ; you can find here the « closing dates calendar ».
The Bibliothèque Mazarine is a public library, open to everyone ; readers below the age of 18 have to come with a parental authorization. Registrations are made at the library. You must show a form of identification (national ID card, passport, driving licence , home office permit to stay, residence proof) and two legal form photos.
We have three kinds of registration pass :
- Two-days pass Valid for two working days running, this pass is free and cannot be renewed during the year. - Ten-days pass Valid for ten working days in a year, this pass costs 7,50 €. - Year pass Valid a year, this pass costs 15,00 €.
The consulting of rare and precious books is possible under the agreement of the reading room chief. However, for some of these books a written request must be sent to the library's director. The authorization gives the possibility to consult the book twice a year. Middle Ages manuscripts, which presents illuminations registered in the Liber Floridus data base, have to be consulted in microfilms, except for research reasons that needs to consult originals, up to twice a year.
