blank   Reproductions

You must obtain the permission of the library for the reproduction of any document. Imaging Services might refuse it if the original item is not suitable for reproduction process. All material, library own bookstocks and contemporary documents, are subject to French copyright law (n057-298 of 11 March 1957  03/11/1957). Customers wishing to reproduce supplied material will need to pay the applicable fees..

Paper copies can be requested only onsite. Reproductions can be requested either using our online order form, or onsite in the library's reading room. To order photographic prints, duplicate microfilms, illuminations reproductions, please follow the links below.

  • Paper copy
  • Paper copies can be requested at the reading room information desk.
    Price : 0,20 .
    Remote paper copy requests will be accepted only within the inter-library lending
    (in France 4 for the ten first copy, 2 for each others ten ; 4 IFLA voucher each ten copies for other countries).

  • Photographic prints
  • A professional photographer will make your photos. They can be digital photography (300DPI), black and white prints (photographic paper print 18 x 24 cm, or negative 6 x 6 cm), ektachrome (10 x 12 cm, or 6 x 7 cm). If the Imaging Service agrees, the request will be sent to the photographer, who will send you back the photos and the invoice.

  • Microfilms
  • Almost all the middle ages manuscripts of the library have been microfilmed, but only a part of the modern manuscripts and the printed books have.
    Microfilm and duplicated copies are made by the Société d'ingénierie et de microfilmage. It must include a complete document; partial requests will not be accepted. Any request of microfilm or duplicated copies have to be sent to the Bibliotheque Mazarine. If accepted, request will hand on to the provider, who pre-empt you the invoice.

  • Illumination's copy
  • The Bibliotheque Mazarine middle ages manuscripts' illuminations were digitized and included in the Liber Floridus database. They can be duplicated in different forms :

blank   Inter-library loan (PEB)

The Bibliotheque Mazarine is part of the inter-library loan service (PEB). The library supplies items or copies of them to other libraries in France (except in Nle-de-France) and abroad. Copies can not exceed 50 pages or at most 30 % of an article and 10 % of a monograph. Items prior to the 20th century and those in a bad state of preservation are excluded from loan.

blank   Visiting the Bibliotheque Mazarine

It is possible to visit the reading room in the opening time, showing respect for the readers (few people at a time, silence, no photos...). Reserved group tour, about specifics subjects, are scheduled for organizations and schools, from Monday to Friday, before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. You can reserve tours in advance by contacting the library.
On top of that, the library wishes to organize some public group tours, on fixed dates that will be established. If you are interested, please give your name and contact at the library that will inform you.


The Bibliotheque Mazarine offers a newsletter service. You will be informed about events (exceptional closing, online exhibitions and bibliographies, library's tours...), or receive a selective bibliography of the last acquisitions in the special collections of the library. If you want to register for our newsletter, please give us your name and e-mail address.


The Bibliothèque Mazarine is the author of severals publications. Some of those are still available and can be purchased by email.
